November 14, 2001, Washington, DC: Meeting with Mr. Paul Jones and Mr. Paul Pfeufer: Representatives of the the Macedonian American Friendship Association Dr. Vasil Babamov and Mr. Marjan Kochovski met with the Officer for the Balkans in the State Department, Mr. Paul Jones and the Desk Officer for Macedonia Mr. Paul Pfeufer to discuss the situation in Macedonia. Dr. Babamov and Mr. Kochovski conveyed to the State Department officials their concern with the rising anti-American sentiments among the Ethnic Macedonian population in the Republic of Macedonia and in the United States and explored the ways of improving the situation. They stressed that the evacuation of the terrorists from Arachinovo together with their weapons is the single event that contributed most to the deteriorating of the image of the United States among the ethnic Macedonian all over the world..
The Association representatives also voiced their concern about the apparent
shift of the relationships of Macedonia toward its more traditional East
European allies who appear to be more supportive in its struggle with
terrorism and its effects on the Macedonian- US relations.

Mr. Jones assured the representatives of the Macedonian American Friendship
Association that the policy of the United States toward Macedonia remains
on the same course and discounted the
