He was born in Skopje, Macedonia, where he completed his elementary and secondary education and obtained a college degree in Chemical Engineering. He continued his education in the US and was awarded a Ph. D. in Chemical Physics from the University of Illinois in Urbana under the mentorship of Professor R. A. Marcus, the 1992 Nobel Price Laureate in Chemistry. He did postdoctoral studies at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, CA, where subsequently he obtained a Faculty position. He also worked as a Professor of Chemistry at a Graduate Study Center of the system of Institutes of Technology in Mexico and taught at the California State University in Long Beach, CA. He presently works as a Senior Analysts at the CAS in Columbus, Ohio, a division of the American Chemical Society, where he also served as the Editor of the CAS Thesaurus.He speaks fluently or rads a large number of European languages that he relies upon in his work.
As a president of the Macedonian Orthodox Church St. Mary Dr. Babamov organized several medical aid shipments that were airlifted to Macedonia at the time of greatest need in 1991. Subsequently, he was appointed on the Ohio Medical Mission Task Force, which collected surplus medical equipment and supplies made available by the closing a large number of hospitals in Ohio and sent it to needy countries. In 1993 he delivered a major shipment of four ocean-going containers of medical equipment and supplies from this Task Force to Macedonia, the larger medical aid shipment ever delivered to Macedonia. With the aid of the Project Bookshare of his employer, The ACS he collected a shipment of 30,000 pounds of Chemistry books and journals that was sent to Macedonia on December 31, 1998
